12 hr? The most I've done up until now is 1-hour and I can hardly pay attention that long. My professor has said that we will do a 6-hour piece for our portfolios late on in class. Of course, this is only my first figure-drawing course but wow. Great work.
And this is from a life model? I really would like to do a long pose once, like an hour or two, but all I get in my classes is 20 to 30 minutes, and I'm such a slow draughtsman, I never get around to doing any shades or colors.
This is an exquisit charcoal, I can never do charcoal cuz it gets on my fingers and I wind up consuming large amounts of it everytime I attempt to...er, well, a lovely picture, hehe! Not a single mistake, couldn't be a practice!!
The person is fantastic, it's so hard to draw people... the only place I feel it could be improved is the right foot, which is a little bit flat, and the toes don't appear to be defined enough although that may be the perspective.
The shadow on the wall has something of a cartoonish edge in the triangle of light the arm and body form, which doesn't quite fit, but the part that most bugs me is the way the background doesn't seem continuous off to the left of the picture, it just becomes shading and loses perspective. I don't know if this was intentional or becuase you wanted it shaded quickly, but I feel it would be better either fading to white or continued in perspective.
I really had to dredge for anything to pick holes in as you're truly a fantastic artist. Feel free to tear mine to pieces too
great proprtions, you have an innate sense in tackling forshortening very well, which can be onerous. you also have a nice control over your tonal values and an understanding of form and anatomy and how that translates into light and dark. you don't loose it to effect.
i would have preferred though that the model be completely nude. there is something about having the study of the human body obscured by artciles of clothing that makes me irritable. but somehow i also suspect that, that is the sensibility of the school and not you.
really nice job.
