Christopher Hitchens by infernovball Christopher Hitchens by infernovball
Author and intellectual Christopher Hitchens. He's a very prickly customer, but his debates are very interesting.

This piece is painted similar to the way that I painted the Rachel McAdams image. A bit simplified with a "smoother" appearance. Starting with a black and white value painting then adding color overlays in Photoshop.

Very nice work. I've finally started read Hitchen's work. Whether you agree with him or not, he's an interesting guy and a good writer.

Great work. I've always admired artists who can make caricatures...You gotta be a master realist to be able to make a good one. :)

And I don't mean to start a religious war out here, but ironicly, this portrait proves his worldviews wrong :) In a purely materialistic universe there's no purpose, so there's no need for the feelings of justice, beauty, humor and so on. Trying to assign them as some mechanic for survival is just wild imagination in my opinion.

Just because there's no absolute or objective purpose to something doesn't mean that it can't have an important subjective meaning to a lot of people. I'm also not trying to start a religious war, lol.

Well, yeah, we all dislike those :D But my point is those things shouldn't even have come to existance.

RIP, Mr. Hitchens.
I suppose now he finally knows the truth.

You can't know anything without a functioning brain, besides, he already knew the truth when he was alive.

Figure of speech.

And he had his opinion.
No one knows the truth. (:

Very well done, but (just to be picky) I'm quite sure that the flag he wears isn't an American one. He wears a flag of one of the banished nations of the middle east. I'm sure I could search through his debates and interviews to find the exact name, but it would seem a bit excessive for an internet commet.

"One mistake, the pin on his lapel is not an American flag, it is the flag of Kurdistan."

Ah, I see that that point has already been made. Pardon me.

Great pic.

Hitchens is a dishonest debater. Instead of arguing religion is bad, he says anything bad is religion (see communist russia).

This...is just so perfect and hilarious to me. Its so easily recognizable as Hitchens, and captures his leering expression so well.

There'a a strange fish for you. A British American Marxist Neocon who bashes female comedians, Mother Theresa and God, but likes the Kurds.

This is great at capturing that look he gives when he's on TV and someone else is talking- you get the distinct feeling that he already knows what everyone else is going to say before they say it and he's getting bored.

I really like him and your rendition of him!

I don't know what you mean. He gained US citizenship a while ago and was wearing an American flag pin in several appearances.

Generally, Mr. Hitchens is wearing a Kurdistan pin to show his solidarity with the Kurds, the largest group of people in the world not to have their own country. The Kurdish people are aiding in the fight against the United States' enemies and Hitchens also has many Kurdish friends. I merely meant to point out he more often than not wears the Kurdish flag pin as opposed to the American. However, my comment was not a serious critique, of course, it does not really matter.

When you do these portraits, do you use one layer or several?

:iconinfernovball:

I use several. For example, with this one I had a full value b/w painting of him then added color overlays on new layers then merged them together and then painted a little more on the merged layer.

I love how you captured him. You can recognize that stare anywhere XD. Very nice work.
